One in three Canadians will experience a mental health challenge at some point in their lives. You don't have to face it alone.

You're Not Alone

Taking the first step is the hardest part

It's easy to convince yourself that you should be able to handle everything on your own. But when stress, anxiety, or sadness start interfering with your daily life, reaching out for support is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Individual counselling gives you a confidential, non-judgmental space to work through what's weighing you down. You don't need to have all the answers—that's what we're here for.

Inclusive Support

We're committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We're allies of LGB2TQIA+ and BIPOC individuals, and support those who self-identify as women, non-binary or gender non-conforming.

Personalized Care

Your needs and experiences are unique to you. Our counsellors are trained in a wide range of therapeutic techniques to ensure you receive the effective, high quality support you deserve.

Qualified Professionals

Every counsellor on our team is a licensed professional with a masters-level education and extensive experience supporting the needs of women.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about individual counselling at Women's Mental Health.

No, you do not need a referral from your doctor or anyone else to see a counsellor. You can book your first session directly through our website.

The first appointment is called an "intake session" and is often an information gathering session. There will be some paperwork to go over, a discussion about the counselling process, and an opportunity for you to ask questions. Since everyone is different, the first session helps your counsellor get to know you and find out how they can best support you.

Individual counselling sessions are typically 50 minutes long. Most clients begin with weekly sessions, though the frequency can be adjusted based on your needs and goals. Your counsellor will work with you to find a rhythm that feels right.

Many extended health benefit plans cover counselling services provided by a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), Registered Social Worker (RSW), or Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC). We recommend checking with your benefits provider for specific coverage details.

We offer both online and in-person counselling. Our main office is at 550 W Broadway, Unit 533, Vancouver, BC, and some of our counsellors also see clients in-person from their own private offices. To check a counsellor's availability and location, see their bio on our team page.

Online sessions take place through a secure video platform and are similar to in-person therapy, just accessed remotely. Once your appointment is booked, you'll receive an email with a secure link. At your session time, click the link to enter a virtual waiting room — no downloads required.
